They shared their memories of travelling from their homelands and adapting to their new life in the UK, the difficulties they faced in settling in a new environment, and the contributions made by them and their families to their new home country. The aim of the project was to create a historical record that would inspire new communities coming to Britain and younger generations growing up here. It was intended to spark memories and reminiscences from the first-generation migrants that will give younger generations (children born in the UK or who came as children) an idea of life ‘back home’ and later in the United Kingdom, creating cultural transmission across the generations. The Oral History Reminiscence Project was sponsored by the National Lottery Fund. The book (A4 size, full colour on gloss paper) is available from the MCCC office. We ask for a small donation + cost of sending.
